Independent publisher Locust Moon Press plans to release Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream, an anthology including work from over 100 current cartoonists to pay tribute to comics’ legend Winsor McCay, creator of Little Nemo.
Locust Moon Press is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter to fund the book. The project, which has a retailer level, has received commitments for 80% of its goal in the first couple of days, and is trending toward a big number.
The giant, newspaper broadsheet-sized book (16" x 21") of new strips pays homage to Sunday Press Books’ Eisner & Harvey Award Winning “perfect” series of reprints done in the same size as McCay’s original work appeared in Sunday newspapers of the day. Locust Moon Press plans to use the same printer as Sunday Press Books did for the 144-page hardcover.
The contributors list includes Michael Allred, Paul Pope, Yuko Shimizu, J.H. Williams III, Charles Vess, David Mack, J.G. Jones, Craig Thompson, Paolo Rivera, Carla Speed McNeil, Bill Sienkiewicz, P. Craig Russell, Ronald Wimberly, Denis Kitchen, Jill Thompson, Stephen R. Bissette, Gabriel Bá & Fábio Moon, Farel Dalrymple, John Cassaday, and Cliff Chiang, among others.
Backer fulfillment is planned for November, with a limited pre-release of bookplate editions at festivals and conventions in late fall.
Andrew Carl, Editor-in-Chief of Locust Moon, which is a retail comic shop and art gallery in Philadelphia as well as home to Locust Moon Press, told ICv2 that they plan to distribute the book to comic stores. "Our distribution plans are not yet set in stone, but currently we're planning a wide release through Diamond distribution in the spring."
