San Diego Comic-Con News: At the "Avengers & X-Men: All-Axis"” panel, Marvel announced the April 2015 release of Avengers: Rage of Ultron, an original graphic novel written by Rick Remender and drawn by Jerome Opena. In Rage of Ultron, the master of robots takes on two teams of Avengers, one from the past and one from the future in a storyline that delves deeply in questions about the potential and the pitfalls of artificial intelligence, and its relationship to biological organisms
Remender is playing a key role in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men: Axis event this fall (see "First Details of 'Avengers vs. X-Men: Axis'"). The Russ Manning Award-winning Opena, who worked with Remender on Fear Agent, Uncanny X-Force, and Punisher, is currently one of the key artists on Marvel’s Infinity event.
The new Avengers OGN will be released just a few weeks before Joss Whedon’s Avengers: The Age of Ultron opens nationwide on May 1st. Marvel is touting Remender and Opena’s Avengers: The Rage of Ultron as "an easy entry point for new readers," and the clear purpose is to provide booksellers with an OGN that ties in and benefits from the expected success of Whedon’s Avengers sequel--and with a title that differs from Whedon’s movie moniker by just one letter, the intent is quite obvious.
While Marvel’s movie success have moved the sales needle on their graphic novels a bit, the House of Ideas has never enjoyed the kind of sales boom that Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy provided for DC’s Batman graphic novels, or that the movies based on Frank Miller’s 300 and Sin City provided for Dark Horse.
Due in April, 2015 From Rick Remender and Jerome Opena
