Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have set a release date for the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla film. Godzilla 2 is now set for a nationwide release on June 8th, 2018. Edwards, who is also directing a Star Wars spin-off (see "Director Signed for First 'Star Wars' Spin-Off"), will return to helm the sequel to his Godzilla film, which cost $160 million to produce, and which has now earned over $500 million worldwide. The 2018 date will mean a four-year gap between the first and second Godzilla films, which is not ideal, but was made necessary by the director’s busy schedule.
At Comic-Con, Legendary announced that in the sequel, Godzilla will be joined by his old buddies Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah (see "Rodan, Mothra, & King Ghidorah Set for 'Godzilla' Sequel").
Not content with just reviving Godzilla, Legendary has also announced a new film set on King Kong’s Skull Island (see "'Skull Island'").
