Dark Horse Comics is planning to publish the classic Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith Conan comics in a series of three trade paperbacks, the first of which, The Chronicles of Conan, is due out in September. Long a favorite with pulp fiction fans, Robert E. Howard's sword-wielding Cimmerian reached new heights of popularity in the Marvel comic series in the early 1970s. Fans were particularly appreciative of the 24-issue run by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith, which Dark Horse is now republishing in trade paperback form.
Dark Horse has recently acquired the right to publish Conan material (see 'Dark Horse To Publish Conan Comic'). In addition to reprinting the classic Roy Thomas/Barry Windsor-Smith issues, Dark Horse is producing Conan Busts, which also debut in September (see 'Dark Horse Announces Conan Busts'). In early 2004 Dark Horse will publish a new Conan the Barbarian series, which will be written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Cary Nord (Daredevil, Mutant X, Catwoman, The Authority Widescreen). Additional Conan products should be available from Rittenhouse Archives (see 'Rittenhouse Gets Conan License') and Mongoose Publishing (see 'Mongoose To Publish Conan RPG').
