Greg Berlanti, who co-created the Arrow and Flash TV series, is teaming with Ali Adler to create a TV series based on the DC Comics superhero Supergirl.  The show, which Warner Bros. Television is planning to pitch to all the networks as it did with Gotham, will reportedly be a new interpretation of the Supergirl character.  
 
Adler, who worked with Berlanti on the ABC series No Ordinary Family, will write the pilot and function as an executive producer along with Berlanti.  According to Deadline, DC’s Geoff Johns will also be involved in the project in an as-yet unspecified position. 
 
Created in 1959 by Otto Binder, Al Plastino, and Curt Swan, Supergirl has had several incarnations in the DCU, but the most popular and enduring one is Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin.  Of course with Deadline reporting that the producers are planning a new interpretation of the character, so we will have to wait to find out exactly how the TV Supergirl will fit in to the DCU.

Supergirl has found success in the film and TV realm before.  Supergirl made to the big screen in an eponymous 1984 film starring Helen Slater, and she showed up in the seventh season of the Smallville TV series as well (see "Supergirl Skies on the Small Screen").
