Marcus King of Games & Comics in London, Kentucky comments on Marvel Comics’ recently announced special variant cover program in October (see "Marvel Announces 'Stomp on Bullying' Variant Covers").
Marvel Comics is coming out with new "Stop Bullying" covers for their comic books. That's pretty freaking awesome. I was bullied as a kid, and it made me really love reading about Captain America, and how he stood up for justice, and I loved that comic.
Bullying is an ongoing problem.
I am, then, sickened that Marvel has made all of their "Stop Bullying" covers to be incentive covers. As in you can buy ONE stop bullying cover for every 15 of the standard comic cover you get.
As a life-long Marvel Comics fan, I have forgiven them for a lot of things. Clones. Reincarnation of, well, everybody except Gwen Stacey.
But, I cannot forgive this. How cool would it have been to have the stop bullying covers be the NORMAL cover? Or, even the Free Comic Book Day covers? The kids who need the messages about not bullying are not the kids buying the expensive alternate art, incentive covers.
Frankly, I think EVERY games or comics retailer should be up in arms about this!!
