At New York Comic Con, ICv2 sat down with Enterplay President Dean Irwin and SVP Marketing and Product Development Gail Tilden, who shared details on upcoming My Little Pony CCG releases as well as the My Little Pony Trading Card Fun Packs Series 3.
The My Little Pony Trading Card Fun Packs Series 3 are scheduled to arrive the second week in December. "We’re going to focus on the episodes of the show, which is what the real fans like," Tilden said." We’re going to have a card for each of the 91 episodes that have aired so far, with information about that episode." There will also be song cards, new character and foil cards. "It’s going to be highly collectible."
The biggest change for this release, though, is that there will be eight items in the pack instead of six, which accounts for the new MSRP of $2.99. There will be a foil card in every pack. Enterplay is also replacing the gold foil cards with lenticular 3D cards, which will have a 1:24 pack insertion rate. Hobby boxes will also have a lenticular card as a box topper. There will be a total of eight collectible lenticular cards in the set.
Two My Little Pony collector tins will release in the first week of January. The tins, which feature either Pinkie Pie or Discord, will be hybrid products that include packs from both the My Little Pony CCG as well as the My Little Pony Trading Card Fun Packs Series 3. Each tin will include two exclusive cards, one each for the CCG and the Series 3 Trading Card Set (there will be a total of four unique exclusive cards in the two tins).
For the My Little Pony CCG the next expansion is Absolute Discord in February, which follows the recent Crystal Games expansion (see "Upcoming 'MLP CCG' Releases and OP Update"). "At that point it will be established that we’re releasing a major expansion every three or four months; it’s been very difficult for us to get caught up with it," Irwin said.
"We’ve really increased our resources in the last few months, and added some super-experienced people to the team," Tilden said. Among the new staff are additional graphic designers, who will help to increase turnaround and help launch the organized play website (see "New 'MLP CCG' OP Site").
