Mark Wahlberg has been cast to star in an updated film version of the popular 1970s TV show The Six Million Dollar Man, Deadline is reporting.
Wahlberg will team with director Peter Berg, who directed him in 2013’s Lone Survivor. The movie will be produced by The Weinstein Co’s Dimension Films. Bob Weinstein and Sarah Abrey will produce, along with Wahlberg’s production company Closest to the Hole Prods and Wahlberg’s producing partner Stephen Levinson.
The tale of astronaut Steve Austin, who has his legs, right arm and left eye replaced with bionics after an experimental plane crash, will be adjusted for 40+ years of inflation; such cybernetic prosthetics apparently cost six billion dollars in today’s economy. On the original show, Austin used his super-human power as a secret agent for the government’s Office of Scientific Intelligence.
Dynamite Entertianment launched The Six Million Dollar Man--Season Six this year (see "'The Six Million Dollar Man: Season 6'"). Dynamite previously released The Bionic Man by Kevin Smith, adapted from a screenplay he wrote in 1995 for Universal Pictures, which was never produced (see "Preview: 'Kevin Smith--The Bionic Man Vol. 1: Some Assembly Required' TP").
