Disney has announced in its conference call and via Twitter that Pixar will release
Toy Story 4, directed by John Lasseter, on June 16, 2017. A 2017 release date puts the fourth film in the franchise at seven years after the release of
Toy Story 3 in June of 2010 (see "
'Toy Story' Triumphs").
Toy Story 3 generated over $1 billion in global box office and $10 billion in global retail sales (see "
'Toy Story 3' Tops in Merchandise"), Disney CEO Robert Iger said in the company’s conference call with analysts.
Iger also announced that Pixar will release
Incredibles 2 and
Car Wars 3, but gave no dates.
The storyline in
Toy Story 4 will pick up where
Toy Story 3 ended, and will be a love story, Lasseter told the
Los Angeles Times.
