Arcane Wonders will release Mage Wars Arena, a new Mage Wars core set, and a new entry point product, Mage Wars Academy, the company announced.
Mage Wars Arena, shipping in late February or early March, represents the fourth edition of the game, and introduces several updates. There are two new spell book designs, a new arena board design, alternate and new artwork for several cards, as well as 14 new spell cards which will make spell book building easier. MSRP was not announced.
The rebranding of the Mage Wars core set as Arena, helps identify it as a game with a board in preparation for Mage Wars Academy, a forthcoming 2-player set that will function as an additional entry point for new players. Mage Wars Academy will be a “board-less” game, which offers portability and faster gameplay, as well as a lower price point. It will include more cards and strategies for collectors and existing players.
Dynamite Entertainment recently announced a licensing agreement to produce comics, prose novels, and more for Mage Wars (see "Dynamite Licenses 'Mage Wars'").
