Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka The Scarecrow, makes his first appearance in the Gotham TV series next Monday in an episode appropriately entitled "The Scarecrow."  In next week’s Gotham episode Jim Gordon is on the trail of the Scarecrow’s father, Gerald Crane, a biology teacher, who has been harvesting glands from his murder victims.  The nature of Jonathan Crane’s long rumored appearance on Gotham (see "'Gotham' First-Look Featurette") has not yet been revealed.

Now that the Gotham TV show has been renewed for a second season, the producers are starting to introduce new elements that will eventually bring the show a bit closer to the superhero-dominated  DC Universe.  In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Gotham executive producer Bruno Heller indicated that the Red Hood will be making an appearance late in the show’s first season and the character will introduce the flamboyant comic book costume-wearing element to the series.

When asked if Season One would be costume-free, Heller replied: "That's a good question.  Especially now that we have a pick up, I always take a long-term view of a show.  I'm looking at several years.  So we're in no hurry to [do that]--there's going to be an episode that involves the Red Hood, which picks up that strand, the costume strand, and sort of gives a kind of philosophical base, if that's not too pretentious a word.  Why costumes?  What's the power of costumes?  What's the power of a mask?  All of that groundwork will be laid sort of culturally for that side of the DC Universe before we start rolling into the more spectacular spandex type of deal."
