Marvel has released a veritable fleet of covers for Star Wars: Princess Leia #1 as well as a three page preview of the miniseries (see "Marvel Launching 3 'Star Wars' Comics").
The five-issue story is written by Eisner-winner Mark Waid (Daredevil, S.H.I.E.L.D.), with art by Terry Dodson (Avengers & X-Men: AXIS, Uncanny X-Men). The story picks up after the destruction of the first Death Star, where Leia must deal with the loss of her home world and the continued fight to free the galaxy from the Empire.
The main series cover is by Terry Dodson, with variant covers by Alex Ross, Mark Brooks, J. Scott Campbell, Skottie Young, and Butch Guice. Additional covers include an action figure variant by John Tyler Christopher, a teaser variant by John Cassady, an Alex Ross sketch variant and a movie variant. The series debuts March 4th.
The variant strategy paid off well for the flagship Star Wars comic, which sold over 1 million copies in January (see “'Star Wars' #1 Is Big”).
