Disney has announced a new DuckTales TV series for Disney XD in 2017.  The Emmy-winning animated TV show anchored the syndicated Disney Afternoon programming block from 1987 – 1990.  Based on Carl Barks’ Scrooge McDuck and other Duck universe creations, including Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie.  The show spawned video and computer games, a movie, and several comic books, most recently a short series from BOOM! Studios in 2011, around the time BOOM!'s Disney license ended (see “Trouble in Duckburg”).

Ducktales... set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults,” Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Disney XD Marc Buhaj said. “Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”

The series will star the same characters as the earlier incarnation: Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Launchpad McQuack, Donald Duck, Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell, Poe, Ma Beagle, the Beagle Boys, Mrs. Beakley, and Webbigail Vanderquack.
