The 90-minute season finale of The Walking Dead pulled an estimated 15.8 million viewers on Sunday night, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the best for a season finale episode of the series. Season five has been a good one for the series, regularly beating NFL football in its Sunday night time slot (see "'Walking Dead' Tops NFL for 3rd Week in a Row").
The season five premiere is still the most-watched episode of the series, with 17.3 million viewers (see "'Walking Dead' Season Premiere Sets New Record").
Talking Dead, the after-show hosted by Chris Hardwick, set a record for the series, with 7.5 million viewers. Numbers for both shows were strong in demo, with 10.4 million adults 18-49 watching the core series, and 4.9 million adults in demo watching the after-show.
Producers used the ratings to good effect, running the first spot for Fear the Walking Dead, the new spin-off series that will premiere this summer (see "Title, First Trailer for 'Walking Dead' Spinoff").
