Galaxy Quest, the cult sci-fi movie about a cult sci-fi TV show may become a real TV show, according to Deadline.
Paramount Television is putting together a TV series project transforming the 1999 DreamWorks movie into a TV series. The film’s writer (Robert Gordon), director (Dean Parisot) and producer (Mark Johnson) are all involved in the project as potential executive producers, with Gordon penning the script.
A parody of the classic Star Trek TV series, Galaxy Quest follows the cast of a long-cancelled space TV show who now attend conventions and strip mall openings. A group of actual aliens arrive during a convention, having mistaken the show for news footage, and ask the” intergalactic heroes” to save them from an evil alien warlord. The film starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub and Sam Rockwell.
IDW released a comic miniseries sequel in 2008 (see “Galaxy Quest Continues in Comics”), and launched an ongoing series Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues earlier this year.
