At the American Library Association Annual Conference, The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund debuted the Comic Book Club Handbook, a guide to creating and managing graphic novel book clubs.

The resource, designed for librarians, retailers and individuals, provides strategies for getting started, selecting books, managing discussions, selecting books and more. The guide is available as a free download on the CBLDF website, or $3.00 physical copies can be purchased from the website.

The guide was produced by CBLDF and Comic-Con International as part of the groups’ ongoing educational collaboration. The guide was produced with the assistance of Erwin Magbanua of the San Diego Public Library and was illustrated by cartoonist Rick Geary.

“CBLDF’s core mission of fighting censorship starts with expanding understanding about the comics medium,” says CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein. “This handbook aids that mission by providing a springboard for discussions about comics to pop up everywhere.”
