San Diego Comic-Con News: IDW Publications has announced Back to the Future creator/screenwriter Bob Gale will helm a new comic miniseries adaptation of the property launching on October 21, 2015 – the future-date Marty McFly visits in Back to the Future Part II.
Gale will write the four-part miniseries with John Barber (Transformers) and Erik Burnham (Ghostbusters), with art for issue #1 by Brent Schoonover (Batman ’66) and Dan Schoening (Ghostbusters). Subsequent issues will feature a rotating artistic team. The first issue will feature covers by Schoening, Schoonover, and Amy Mebberson (My Little Pony). Schoening will also provide an additional “Artist’s Edition Month” variant cover.
The comic series will fill in the gaps of what happened off-screen in the lives of the characters.
“We’ve subtitled this “Untold Tales and Alternate Timelines” because for years, fans have asked questions about things that happened before the events of the trilogy, in between the events of the trilogy, or in our alternate realities,” Gale said in the announcement. “In this series, we’ll finally answer some of those questions.”
