Steve Jackson Games will release its new Munchkin game, Munchkin Oz, exclusively to Target in August, though copies have already begun to appear in some Target stores.

Based on the classic children’s books by L. Frank Baum, players travel through the land of Oz with friendly characters like the Scarecrow and confront villains like the Wicked Witch as they collect valuable tools like the Tin Man’s Funnel Hat in their quest to reach Level 10 and win the game.

Munchkin Oz uses the same game mechanics as other Munchkin games and can be combined with those other games as an expansion set or played on its own.  The game includes 168 game cards, a custom 6-sided die, and game rules.  MSRP is $24.95.

This will be the second Munchkin exclusive for Target, following 2013’s Munchkin Legends (see “Target ‘Munchkin’ Exclusive”). The game was released into the hobby trade a year later (see “‘Munchkin Legends’ Hits Hobby With Expansion”).  SJG released the Toys’R’Us exclusive Munchkin Treasure Hunt last year (see “TRU ‘Munchkin’ Exclusive”) and in October will release Munchkin Steampunk Deluxe exclusively to hobby game stores (see “Hobby Exclusive ‘Munchkin Steampunk Deluxe’”).
