Like it’s somewhat hairier cousin, in One Night Ultimate Vampire, players secretly assume the roles of various characters living in a small village, from the blood-sucking vampire to innocent townsfolk. Each identity of each player is determined by a random role card, which is kept hidden during play, with the monsters striking at “night” hoping to eliminate the townsfolk while the villagers act during the “day” to try and identify the monsters in their midst.
One Night Ultimate Vampire adds a few new mechanics to the game. In addition to 14 new character roles with new special abilities, the “Mark” tokens are also introduced. All players begin the game with a “Mark of Clarity”, but certain character abilities can replace those with other Marks, changing the nature of the character in the game. For example, a Vampire can convert a player to their team by placing a “Mark of the Vampire” on them.
The new game can be played on its own or combined with character roles from the other One Night games, even allowing for three-sided games pitting both vampires and werewolves against the villagers (and each other). The game is for 3 - 10 players. MSRP is $24.95. One Night Ultimate Vampire was designed by Ted Alspach (Castles of Mad King Ludwig) and Akihisa Okui (One Night Werewolf).
The Kickstarter campaign has been very successful, achieving its funding goal in less than a day, and attracting nearly $175,000 of pledged support from over 2,400 backers as of this writing, with 21 days remaining. Earlier this year, Bezier also announced a version of One Night based on the deduction card game The Resistance (see “‘The Resistance’ Meets ‘One Night Ultimate Werewolf’”).
