Dynamite will release the trade paperback collection of its award-winning
Shaft miniseries in October. The
Shaft: A Complicated Man trade paperback collects the six-issue story written by David Walker with art by Bilquis Evely. It tells the story of the early days of John Shaft, just after he returns from Vietnam and begins his first case. The comic story is based on the character in Ernest Tidyman’s novels, which were also the basis for the 1971 movie (see “
Dynamite Expands Literary Licenses with ‘Shaft’ and Sanderson”).
The miniseries won a Glyph Comics Award for Best Story and was a finalist for the first Dwayne McDuffie Award (see “Finalists for First Dwayne McDuffie Award Announced”).
The book format provides an opportunity for this story to find a broader audience than it did as a periodical.
Shaft: A Complicated Man has a cover by Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz, and will retail for $19.99.
