The new Dark Horse volumes will make the Moebius Library material available in the U.S. for the first time in almost 20 years. Marvel published 11 trade paperback collections of Moebius’ work under its Epic imprint from 1987-1994 (and some of the volumes were later reprinted in a deluxe signed and numbered format by Graphitti Designs). Moebius’s artistic influence can be seen in the works of a wide variety of cutting edge artists, but it is perhaps most pronounced in some of the films of anime Grand Master Hayao Miyazaki, whose has stated unequivocally: “I directed Nausicaa under Moebius’ influence”
Moebius’ impact on 20th Century culture extended beyond the world of animation and comics. He contributed designs and concept art for a number of live-action films including Ridley Scott’s Alien, Tron, and Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element.
Dark Horse will be releasing additional information about the Moebius Library in the near future.
