Michael Breakfield of Lone Star Comics in Arlington, Texas comments on Rob Salkowitz's recent column talking about the current state of DC Comics (see "Trends to Watch in 2016").
Bravo, sir, bravo!
What Rob Salkowitz had to say about the state of DC Comics is quite refreshing and long overdue. It is very clear to those of us in the business and to fans (of which I am both) that the DC product has become extremely vanilla at best and stale at worse. Superman, the greatest super hero in history and one of my personal favorites, and Batman, arguably the most popular character in the history of comics, are practically unreadable lately. As I look back on the last ten years, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's early "New 52" Batman aside, I have to go all the way back to Infinite Crisis (2005) and the Sinestro Corps War (2007) to find DC fare that truly resonates. I've said it before many times and I know I'll say it again, we've seen this vision for the DCU now for more than a decade. Perhaps it's time for a new vision.
