Game designer Luke Crane (Mouse Guard) has announced plans to release the Burning Wheel Gold Codex supplement for his Burning Wheel RPG, with release in August.

The Burning Wheel Gold Codex expands the game by introducing four new character races:  Dark Elves, Roden, Trolls, and Great Wolves.  New traits and skills for the game are also featured, along with new spells and magic items.  In addition to material by Crane, the book will include a forward by Adam Koebel and artwork from Jordan Worley, Kurt Komoda, and Richard Luschek. MSRP is $35.00.

The Burning Wheel is a generic fantasy roleplaying game that was designed to be compatible with any setting that includes magic.  Using a dice pool system limited to six-sided dice, it includes rules for character creation and the resolution of actions and combat.  The system was originally launched in 2002.

Crane was also the designer of both a role-playing game and a board game based on the award-winning Mouse Guard comic (see “New ‘Mouse Guard’ RPG” and “ ‘Mouse Guard’ Board Game”)

The Burning Wheel Gold Codex is being funded through a Kickstarter campaign, easily exceeding its $25,000 funding goal, and has raised nearly $75,000 from more than 1,500 backers as of this writing, with 16 days to go. The campaign includes a “retailer only” funding option.
