BOOM! Studios will release Kong of Skull Island, a new comic miniseries launching on July 13.
The new 6-issue miniseries in endorsed and authorized by King Kong/ Skull Island creator Merian C. Cooper’s family and grounded in artist/author Joe DeVito’s Skull Island illustrated novel sequel (see “ Dark Horse Launches Prose Imprints”). The comic will be written by James Asmus (All New Inhumans), with art by Carlos Magno (Planet of the Apes).The main cover for Issue #1 will be done by Felipe Massafera, with variants by Nick Robles and Eric Powell. Two retailer auction covers, by Ryan Sook and Paul Pope, will also be available.
The origin story will take place long before Carl Denham and Jack Driscoll ever set foot on Skull Island. Two dying enemy civilizations are forced to band together and emigrate to Skull Island, which they soon discover is already home to dinosaurs, Kongs, and other giant creatures.
The prequel series is well-timed to coincide with Warner Bros. upcoming Kong: Skull Island movie which releases on March 10, 2017 (see “Best in Shows--Q1 2017”).
