Two new expansions for Fantasy Flight’s Runebound board game are planned for release in the third quarter: Fall of the Dark Star and The Mountains Rise.
Fall of the Dark Star will be the second “Scenario Pack” for Runebound, offering a completely new storyline in which a prophesied event threatens to plunge Terrinoth into a new age of darkness. Unlike earlier scenarios, Fall of the Dark Star does not center around heroes trying to halt the plans of an evil nemesis. Instead, each character simply tried to become as strong as they can to survive the ultimate doom. Players can use the powers of the “dark shards” to boost their character’s strength, but at the cost of corruption cards. This expansion includes 30 new adventure cards, a new deck of story cards, and a new hero named Zyla. MSRP is $16.95.
The Mountains Rise is an “Adventure Pack”, designed to be used with any scenario. In this expansion, savage creatures threaten the townsfolk of Terrinoth. This expansion includes 15 new adventure cards with new enemies, events, and quests, as well as 20 new asset cards and 10 new skill cards that allow players to further customize their characters. A new fighting style, represented by a new combat symbol, and a new hero named Nanok of the Blade round out this expansion. MSRP is $16.95.The addition of these expansions will bring the total of planned Runebound releases for the third quarter to four (see “‘Caught in a Web’ and ‘The Gilded Blade’”).
