In addition DC will produce new toys and webisodes from its DC Super Hero Girls line featuring Wonder Woman, who also figures prominently in the original Direct-to-DVD movie, DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year, which is due out on DVD on August 23 (see “DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year Hits Home Video”).
Wonder Woman was created by psychologist William Moulton Marston, who invented the polygraph and who had remarkably modern attitudes about gender equality as well as a penchant for bondage, both of which were apparent in the early issues of comics featuring Wonder Woman, who made her first appearance in All-Star Comics #8 in December of 1941.DC Plans Year of Festivities Leading Up to Release of the 'Wonder Woman' Movie

DC Comics has announced a year-long celebration of Wonder Woman that will begin with the launch of a new Wonder Woman comic book series written by Greg Rucka next week and culminates in the debut of the long-awaited Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine on June 2, 2017. In between DC will unveil a new Wonder Woman logo, conduct a special Wonder Woman Panel at Comic-Con, where a life-size replica of her invisible plane will be displayed, issue a commemorative box of Wonder Woman’s greatest stories in July, and a 75th Anniversary Hardcover in October.
In addition DC licensees will join in the festivities with a parade of Wonder Woman products including an action figure and invisible plane and Wonder Woman Barbies from Mattel (though for some reason Warner Bros. Consumer Products has allowed Mattel to make these items “exclusives” for the company’s online collector’s store), plus apparel and accessories from Under Armour, Valentino, and Converse, plus luggage from the Pottery Barn and beauty products from Walgreens.
