While Hammerhead is an original story set in the present day, Dynamite is also publishing comic book adaptations of classic Bond movies set in the Cold War era (see “Dynamite Adapting James Bond Catalog”).

Comic-Con News: Dynamite Entertainment has announced the October, 2016 debut of James Bond: Hammerhead, a six-issue miniseries written by Andy Diggle (The Losers, Daredevil, Detective Comics) with art by Luca Casalanguida. The first issue will feature three different covers, one by Francisco Francavilla (Afterlife With Archie), one by Robert Hack (Sabrina, The Black Hood), and a third by Ron Salas (Six Million Dollar Man).
Veteran comic book writer Diggle is thrilled to be writing stories for Ian Fleming’s iconic spy: “I have never been more thrilled to take charge of a character. James Bond has been with me from childhood, and his influence runs through almost everything I've ever written. Like all truly iconic characters, Bond remains timeless, reinventing himself for each new generation while remaining true to the core of Ian Fleming's original creation. By bringing the Bond of the novels into the present-day world, with all its challenges and complexities, we get the best of both worlds - Fleming's dispassionate ‘blunt instrument' in a post-Cold War landscape of mass surveillance, drone strikes and WMDs."
In Hammerhead Bond takes on a radical anti-capitalist terrorist, but that might not be the stiffest challenge he faces. The first issue of James Bond: Hammerhead will be solicited in the August edition of Diamond’s Previews.
