The story will be co-written by Mike Mignola, and co-written and illustrated by Gary Gianni.  The plot picks up after the events of The Island, with Hellboy setting sail from the deserted island only to cross paths with a ghost ship.  The ghostly crew takes him captive, with plans to sell him to the circus. The ship’s captain is also obsessed with a sea monster, and not even Hellboy will get in the way of his hunt.
