Shaw’s other graphic novels include Bottomless Belly Button, New School, and Doctors. His latest book, Cosplayers, was released this month.
451 Media Group has launched an exclusive music video to visualize the underground music scene depicted in its recently launched NVRLND comic miniseries. The video was directed by Dylan Mulick, who created and wrote the comic with Stephanie Salyers. The comic is illustrated by Leila Leiz. The video features a song by indie rock band The Raveonettes, written specifically for the property."One of the things that really attracted us to 451 was their cross platform model," said Mulick. "Music is at the heart of NVRLND, and we were so excited to introduce this story with a music based approach. This music video was the perfect opportunity to capture the tone of NVRLND and bring the characters on the printed page to life, and as a creator I can’t tell you how exciting this is. We can’t wait to explore the world even further across other platforms as the scope of NVRLND continues to grow."
The story is a dark, modern take on Peter Pan set in Hollywood. Peter is the singer of the rock band The Lost Boys who play at the underground club NVRLND. Wendy is a new girl, drawn into the underground scene by Tigerlily. There she meets, and falls for, Peter. Meanwhile, James Hook, a tattooed biker, is getting kids hooked on the new drug “pixie dust,” and he’s horning in on Peter’s turf.
The first issue of the comic released last week.
