DC’s Black Lightning may be the next superhero headed for the small screen.
Greg Berlanti, executive producer on Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow, has teamed with Mara Brock Akil (creator of Being Mary Jane and The Game) and her husband Salim Akil for a drama series based on the Black Lightning comic book character, Deadline is reporting. The project, from Warner Bros. TV, Berlanti Productions, and Akil Productions, is currently being shopped to networks.
The story will follow Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero living a normal life. However, problems at his daughter’s school will pull him back into the game.
Black Lightning was one of DC Comics first major African American superheroes. He was created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden and debuted in Black Lighting #1 in 1977.
