Twentieth Century Fox has released a teaser trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes ahead of the studio’s presentation at New York Comic Con tonight.

The teaser is ominous and hazy, showing Caesar appearing from out of a snow storm. “You must go before the fighting begins,” he says in voiceover. “I’m sorry. War has begun.”

The movie’s synopsis reads: Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

The film is due in theaters July 14, 2017.

BOOM! Studios just announced a new crossover series between DC’s Green Lantern and Planet of the Apes coming next year (see “Take Your Stinking Paws Off My Crossover”).
