IDW has announced a graphic novel adaptation of Lennon: The New York Years, an acclaimed novel by French writer David Foenkinos, set for May 2017 release.
Eric Cobeyran is tasked with writing the graphic novel adaptation and French artist Horne will provide the accompanying black-and-white illustrations.
In Lennon, Foenkinos paints a fictionalized biographical portrait of the musician through monologues that the writer imagined took place during visits between Lennon and a therapist. The book and graphic novel adaptation cover nearly all of Lennon’s life, from his turbulent childhood to his experiences as a musician and member of the Beatles to the day before his December 8, 1980, assassination in New York City
John Lennon has been immortalized in graphic novels before, most recently in Vivek J. Tiwary’s Eisner-winning The Fifth Beatle: The Story of Brian Epstein, which is itself being adapted into a television event series (see “'Fifth Beatle' to Become Event Series”).
