Drawn and Quarterly shared its Spring 2017 slate, which includes new books from Guy Delisle, Dupuy and Berberian, Elise Gravel, Mimi Pond, and Jillian Tamaki, along with a reprint from James Sturm.
In stores on April 18, Mimi Pond’s The Customer Is Always Wrong recounts her youth waitressing at Oakland’s legendary Imperial Cafe during the late 1970s. The graphic novel carries on the same brash and earnest tone as Pond’s acclaimed memoir Over Easy (see “Top Graphic Novel Lists Of 2014 Round-Up”). The 448-page, two-color hardcover will have an MSRP of $29.95.
May 2 sees the release of Hostage by Guy Delisle. Delisle tells the harrowing story of Doctors Without Borders administrator Christophe André, who was kidnapped and held hostage for three months in the Caucasus region in 1997. The 432-page, two-color hardcover MSRP is $29.95. Dupuy and Berberian’s It Don’t Come Easy makes its way into stores on May 23. In the latest of the French duo’s award-winning Monsieur Jean series, Jean finds himself questioning his life and the lives of the people closest to him. The 224-page, full-color paperback MSRP is $21.95. June 6 will see the release of Boundless from Caldecott honoree Jillian Tamaki (see “Graphic Novels Get Newbery, Caldecott, Printz 'Honors'”). In Boundless, the artist mixes diverse art styles, speculative fiction, and feminist ideas to explore how the expectations of others affect the lives of women. The 248-page, full-color paperback will have an MSRP of $21.95. Elise Gravel’s charming If Found...Please Return to Elise Gravel makes its way into stores one week later on June 13. In If Found, Gravel offers a sneak peek into her personal sketchbook, sharing her vibrant and esoteric drawings and offering tips for becoming a successful illustrator. The 100-page, full-color hardcover will have an MSRP of $17.95. May 16 will see the release of a new edition of James Sturm’s classic examination of the roots of America’s pastime and a Depression-era Jewish baseball team, The Golem’s Mighty Swing. The 120-page, two-color paperback will have an MSRP of $17.95.All of these come on the heels of Drawn & Quarterly’s winter releases, which include titles by Peter Bagge, Joe Ollmann, R Sikoryak, Michael DeForge, Yeon-sik Hong, Vanessa Davis, and Lynda Barry (see “Peter Bagge, Joe Ollmann, R.
