Mike Steco, owner of Golden Unicorn Comics in McAdoo, Pennsylvania, recently checked the storage locker where he keeps the store’s collection, only to find it had been cleaned out of its 40,000 bagged and boxed comics sometime in the last month.
The collection included multiple issues of collectible titles from the 1980s and 1990s including:
- 100 Spider-Man #1 by Todd McFarlane
- 100 Spider-Man #2 by Todd McFarlane
- 50 Wolverine #1
- 100 X-Force #2
- 40 X-Force #11
- 80 X-Factor #5
Steco told ICv2 he bags his comics differently from other retailers – by putting the flap in the front. He also custom prints tags for the books which include title, price, cover price, and month of release. In all, he estimates there were between 300 – 320 boxes in the storage space. “If I had to guess, that’s at least three trips back and forth with a box truck.“
