Seventh Sphere Publishing has recruited some star power to support its open-source multi-genre role playing game Open Legend, including fan favorites Ed Greenwood and Matthew Mercer.

Available online since February, Open Legend is a generic system which can be used for any style of game, co-created by Ish Stabosz and Brian Feister.  It does not use class-based character development, instead allowing players to custom-build their characters by selecting feats, perks, and flaws to define their abilities.

Seventh Sphere is now producing new PDF and print versions of Open Legend, expected to release in April 2017.  MSRP is $39.99.

To support the project, the company has recruited a number of well-known writers in the role playing community to create a mixed-genre campaign setting book entitled Amaurea’s Dawn, as a way to showcase what the system is capable of, which will also be produced in PDF and print versions.

Amaurea’s Dawn is set on a fantasy world dominated by clans of elves with widely different philosophies confronting the intrusion of humans from the technological world of Schlectenberg, desperate for the resources of Amaurea to save their own doomed planet.  The project includes input from a number of writers, including Ed Greenwood (Forgotten Realms), Matthew Mercer (of Geek & Sundry), Dan Dillon (of Kobold Press), Ryan Schapals (Hyper RPG), Jim Pinto (7th Sea), Savannah Broadway (Pathfinder), and Brandes Stoddard (Tribality).  The book will feature artwork by Randy Vargas (Legend of the Five Rings), Crystal Sully (Pathfinder), and Tristin Ishmael (Shadowrun), among others.

Seventh Sphere is funding the project through a Kickstarter campaign which more than doubled its $10,000 goal in the first 24 hours.  The campaign includes a bulk purchase backer option at $300.00, which is not limited to retailers.
