As 2016 draw to a close, many outlets are beginning to release their annual best-of lists, including Publishers Weekly, which this week put out their Best Books 2016 lists, including a graphic novel list and a middle grades list that includes two graphic novels.

PW’s best graphic novels of 2016 are:

  • The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye by Sonny Liew (Pantheon)
  • How to Survive in the North by Luke Healy (Nobrow)
  • March Book Three by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell (Top Shelf)
  • The One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg (Little, Brown)
  • Rosalie Lightning: A Graphic Memoir by Tom Hart (St. Martin’s)

On the middle grade list:

  • Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier (Scholastic)
  • Snow White by Matt Phelan (Candlewick)
