Warner Bros. is expanding the DC Entertainment movie universe with two writers assigned to the upcoming Green Lantern Corps film, Variety is reporting. David Goyer (Blade, The Dark Knight, Batman v Superman) and Justin Rhodes (Contract Killers, Grassroots) will partner on the script, which Goyer will also produce. DC’s Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will executive produce. The movie is currently scheduled to open on July 24, 2020 (see “Best in Shows--Q3 2020”).
Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage is in early talks for “key role” in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, according to Variety. Marvel plans to shoot Avengers: Infinity War and it’s untitled sequel back-to-back, and Dinklage is expected to appear in both. The plot of the films, which will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America films), has not been released, beyond the Avengers facing off against intergalactic villain Thanos. Dinklage appeared as Boliver Trask in Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past (see “New Photo Hints at the Presence of Sentinels in 'X-Men: DOFP'”), but this would be his first role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Infinity War is set to release in theaters on May 4, 2018 (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2018”). Warner Bros. reboot of the Tomb Raider video game has cast Daniel Wu (Warcraft, Into the Badlands, Europa Report) as Lu Ren, a ship captain who helps Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) on a quest to find her father, Variety reports. Walton Goggins has been cast as the villain (see “'Transformers,' 'Aquaman,' 'Tomb Raider,' 'Alita,' 'Power Rangers,' 'Planet of the Apes'”). The film is set for a March 16, 2018 release (see “Best in Shows--Q1 2018”). Hasbro and Lionsgate have added Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Star Trek Beyond, Guardians of the Galaxy) to the voice cast for the animated My Little Pony: The Movie, Variety reports. Her role was not released. She will join a cast that includes Liev Schreiber, Taye Diggs, Sia, Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Uzo Aduba, and Michael Pena, along with the TV show's “Mane 6” voice actors. The film releases in theaters on October 6, 2017 (see “Best in Shows--Q4 2017”).Mid-January Geek Movie Roundup
