Marvel has begun production on Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler, the studio announced today. It revealed the full cast, confirming Andy Serkis, who had been expected to be involved (see “John Robert Cole in Talks to Write ‘Black Panther’ Film”), but had not been announced, and recapped previous announcements (for example most recently, Angela Bassett, see “Geek Film News Round-Up”). The cast includes two Academy Award winners (Lupita Nyong’o and Forest Whitaker) and an Academy Award nominee (Angela Bassett). The full cast as announced today is:

The synopsis is:
Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
