Like the similar party game, in Werewords, some players are secretly werewolves hoping to devour everyone, while the others are hapless villagers trying to deduce the identity of their would-be killers, but in addition to that tried-and-true mechanic, the players also try to guess the secret “magic word” that can save the village from its terrible fate.
In the game, players ask the “Mayor” yes or no questions about the magic word, trying to deduce it before the time runs out. The Werewolf player knows the word as well, and tries to guide the villagers away from the magic word while keeping their identity a secret. Just like the party game, other roles like the Seer, the Beholder, and the Minion offer players other abilities that can help or hinder the villagers.Werewords will be supported by an app compatible with iOS and Android devices. The app provides magic words of four different difficulty levels and helps guide gameplay.
Werewords was created by Ted Alspach (Castles of Mad King Ludwig, One Night Ultimate Werewolf), and includes 12 role tiles and 48 answer tokens. The game is intended for 4 or more players, and takes about 10 minutes to play. MSRP is $19.95.
