Webcomic/comic artist Gisele Lagace was refused entry into the U.S. on her way to C2E2 in Chicago from New Brunswick, Canada, she wrote in a Facebook post.  The issue was apparently her intent to complete artwork for commissions while in the U.S.  “They kept pressing about the comics I had and the sketches, and well, I had to be honest and said that I did get paid for commissions but before hand, but since they weren’t complete, it was considered work in the U.S.,” she wrote.

Her interaction with U.S. officials included a car search, body search, and fingerprinting.

Lagace expressed concern about being able to attend U.S. conventions in the future.  “Now that I’ve been refused entry into the U.S. for this, it’s on file,” she wrote.  “Don’t expect to see me at a U.S. con until I can figure out a way to get in and being absolutely certain this won’t happen."

In addition to her webcomic work (most notably, on Menage a 3), Lagace has done work for Archie (Archie, Archie Meets Ramones), Dynamite (Betty Boop, see “Roger Langridge Writing Dyhnamite’s ‘Betty Boop’ Comic with Art by Gisele Lagace”), and IDW (Jem and the Holograms).

Lagace was to appear in Artists Alley at C2E2, a ReedPOP show being held at McCormick Place in Chicago this weekend.
