Posthuman Studios will release a new edition of its award-winning sci-fi roleplaying game Eclipse Phase in October. The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

Eclipse Phase is a sci-fi game of transhuman survival. Humans have the technology to switch bodies, augmenting their physical forms and minds as they see fit, and death is no longer permanent. But rogue Artificial Intelligence drove humanity off Earth, so now it must survive in the solar system.

The Second Edition is developed by Rob Boyle and Jack Graham, with graphic design by Adam Jury.  The streamlined Second Edition allows for faster character creation, easier resleeving (switching bodies), updated gameplay, and includes four sample teams that can be dropped into a game to balance party skills. The book layout is redesigned to keep materials close-at-hand with less page-flipping during play. The 432-page full-color hardcover has an MSRP of $59.99.

Posthuman Studios told ICv2 it will release free Quick-Start Rules through distribution sometime between August and September to raise awareness of the upcoming release.  The company plans to support the game with multiple book and accessory releases though 2020, beginning with the Gamemaster's Screen + Plot Book, NPC File Volume 2, and then the System Gazetteer in early 2018.

Eclipse Phase won the Origins Award for Best RPG in 2010 (see “36th Annual Origins Awards”). The game currently has more than 13,000 core rulebooks in print, and the sourcebooks Sunward, Rimward, Firewall, and Gatecrashing will all be compatible with the new edition.

The Kickstarter campaign has raised more than $126,000 from more than 1,700 backers as of this writing, with seven days remaining, well over it’s initial $35,000 goal. There is a retailer backer level availible for four copies of the core rulebook.
