BOOM! Studios and the Cartoon Network have announced an Adventure Time/Regular Show comic book crossover, a six-issue limited series that debuts in August and brings together for the first time Finn and Jake from Adventure Time and Mordecai and Rigby from the Regular Show. The series is being written by Conor McCreery (Kill Shakespeare) and illustrated by Mattia di Meo (Uncle Grandpa)—and it features Boom Studios’ two most popular Cartoon Network properties, Pendelton Ward’s D&D-influenced Adventure Time, and J.G. Quintel’s slacker epic the Regular Show.
Both Adventure Time and the Regular Show traffic in surreal humor and wildly imaginative plots, yet still manage to connect to real human emotions, which is no mean feat. Don’t be surprised if the Adventure Time/Regular Show crossover attempts to emulate this formula—and be ready for the Ice King to make an appearance and create a manic moment or two.
The first issue of the Adventure Time/Regular Show crossover will feature a connecting main cover by Phil Murphy, with both A and B Covers shipping in a 50/50 intermix. Jorge Corona has created a subscription variant cover that pays homage to the classic Avengers vs. X-Men #1 cover.
In addition Dustin Nguyen has created another variant cover, a mash-up image that shows Mordecai and Rigby (from the Regular Show) emulating the Adventure Time title card.
