Like last year’s Volo’s Guide to Monsters (see “New ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Sourcebooks for Fall”), Xanathar’s Guide to Everything weaves together new game rules with “in character” commentary from one of the Forgotten Realm’s more famous inhabitants—in this case the Beholder crime lord of Waterdeep known as the Xanathar.
Xanathar’s Guide focuses on the heroes of Dungeons & Dragons, offering twenty new subclasses for Fifth Edition including the cavalier and the inquisitive, new feats and spells to give players more advancement options, and a random backstory generator to help players create histories for their characters. Also included are tools for Dungeon Masters to personalize their games, including new ways for players to participate in organized play and shared world events.
Throughout the book, the Xanathar itself weighs in with thoughts on the so-called heroes, as well as tips and tricks for ways that villains can deal with such interlopers.
Xanathar’s Guide to Everything will be produced in two versions. The standard version sports a painted cover depicting the Beholder with its precious goldfish. A limited-edition version, with a more abstract cover by illustrator Hydro74, will be available exclusively to Wizard’s core hobby stores. There will be only one printing of the alternate art limited edition. Both versions will be 200 plus-page hardcover books, MSRP is $49.95.
