IDW Publishing plans to get 2004 off to a horrific start by releasing the 30 Days of Night Annual 2004 by writer Steve Niles and artist Ben Templesmith. In addition to Templesmith, who illustrates one story (and the cover), Niles employs 3 other artists--Josh Medors, Brandon Hovet, and Szymon Kudranski--to illustrate three additional short vampire stories set in the 30 Days universe. The 30 Days of Night Annual 2004 is a full color, 48-page comic with a retail price of $4.95. Niles, who seemingly has sold more horror stories to Hollywood than Stephen King, is the key player here -- his latest offering, Wake the Dead #1, just sold out its first printing and is going back to press.
Although renowned for its modern horror comics and modern crime adaptations (CSI, The Shield), IDW has evidently gotten religion -- though the studio had to go to Penthouse magazine to get it by picking up The Bible: Eden, a 104-page full color graphic novel, which collects for the first time Bible stories, illustrated by Scott Hampton and written by Dave Elliott and Keith Giffen, which were originally serialized in Penthouse magazine. The 104-page oversize hardcover has a cover price of $21.99, contains nudity and is intended for an adult audience.
