According to an article in today's USA Today all four Alien films will be released in a box set (the Alien Quadrilogy) on December 2.  Each of the four Alien movies has its own disk of extras, while a ninth disk includes new interviews with director Ridley Scott (Alien) and Sigourney Weaver, who starred in all four films.  The box set, which has a msrp of $99.98, includes versions of four films, which are new to home video including the director's cuts of Ridley Scott's Alien and James Cameron's Aliens, plus 30 minutes of new footage for Alien 3 and alternate opening and ending scenes for Alien Resurrection.  One feature that is sure to find favor with fans is a multi-faceted look at the famous 'chest-buster scene,' which is certainly one of the late twentieth century's pinnacles of cinematic horror.

The four Alien films will be available individually (at $26.98 per film) starting on January 6, but the fact that the individual releases have been delayed until after the holiday speaks volumes about the commercial potential of the box set -- particularly among genre films, which appeal to collectors, who naturally want all the films in a particular series.  The recently released Indiana Jones DVD Box Set sold more than 1.1 million units during its first week of release, bringing in more than $50 million dollars, which is more than any film has earned during its opening weekend at the box office so far this fall.
