San Diego Comic-Con News: On the eve of the SDCC Dynamite Entertainment announced three new comic book series as well as  Red Sonja Trading Cards and a 1:6 Vampirella Action Figure.  The three comic book series include a new Swords of the Swashbucklers series written by Marc Guggenheim that will debut in December of 2017, a series based on the Microsoft Xbox exclusive, open world action-adventure game Crackdown that will debut in November, and a new series of horror comics based on the stylish teen fright film Jeepers Creepers.

HC Reprint of the Original Series
Dynamite recently sponsored a Kickstarter initiative to reprint Bill Mantlo and Jackson Guice’s 1980s adventure comic Swords of the Swashbucklers, which was published under Marvel’s creator-owned Epic imprint (see "Dynamite Bringing Back 'Sword of the Swashbucklers'").  In December Dynamite will release the first issue of a new Swords of the Swashbucklers series that will be written by Marc Guggenheim (X-Men Gold, The Flash, The Amazing Spider-Man).  Like the reprint of the original Swords of the Swashbucklers series, the new series will benefit Bill Mantlo, who suffered a serious accident in the early 90s and has been seriously disabled ever since (see "Mantlo Gets Special 'Guardians' Screening").

Mantlo co-created Rocket Raccoon as well as Cloak and Dagger, but Swords of the Swashbucklers is the only property that Mantlo actually has an ownership stake in, so purchases of any books in the new series will directly aid Mantlo and help to improve the quality of his life.

Crackdown
The first issue of Dynamite’s Crackdown comic book is slated for release on November 8, one day after the latest iteration of popular video game, Crackdown 3 is released.  Shane McCarthy (Transformers, Batman) is writing Dynamite’s Crackdown comic, which will examine the catastrophic blackout events that drive the action in the Crackdown 3 game while expanding the universe of Crackdown beyond the boundaries of the already expansive game environment.

The third new comic book series that Dynamite announced is based on the above average 2001 teen horror film Jeepers Creepers, which was directed by Victor Salva.  With Salva set to release Jeepers Creepers 3 on December 10, 2017, this property should have some renewed strength.  The original Jeepers Creepers film has one of the most memorable openings of any “teens-in-jeopardy” horror movie, as well as a very menacing villain.  Dynamite has released few details about the series, but promises “original stories of Midwestern murder and mayhem.”

Red Sonja Preview Card
Dynamite has also announced the 2018 release of Red Sonja Trading Cards.  The series will feature autograph cards, hand drawn sketch cards, limited edition hand colored cards, puzzle cards, limited edition and oversized box topper cards.  Dynamite plans to hand out special Red Sonja Preview Cards at various comic book conventions, and will be soliciting a complete set of these promo cards (retail $10.00) in the August edition of Diamond’s Previews.

In September Dynamite, in partnership with Executive Replicas, plans to release the Vampirella Asian Version 1:6 Scale Action Figure, which will retail for $149.99.  The 12-inch figure features a Phicen seamless body featuring stainless steel armature, and includes her trademark one-piece bikini costume, three pairs of interchangeable hands, knee-high boots, a removable cape, and more accessories.
