San Diego Comic-Con:  At the San Diego Comic-Con Scholastic Books announced the acquisition of the rights to Hey, Kiddo, Jarrett Krosoczka’s graphic memoir of his childhood and adolescence.  This coming-of-age saga provided the material for Krosoczka’s illustrated Ted Talk "How a Boy Became An Arist," which has been viewed by nearly one million people. Scholastic plans to publish Hey, Kiddo in both hardcover and paperback in the fall of 2018.

Krosoczka was raised by his grandparents because his mother was an incarcerated heroin addict.  Krosoczka did not know the name of his father until he saw his birth certificate when he registered for a school trip.  Hey, Kiddo focuses on Krosoczka’s search for his father, his difficult interactions with his mother, and his rather different day-to-day life with his grandparents, who weren’t expecting to raise another child.

Krosoczka is a two-time winner of Children’s Choice Book Award, who has been nominated for an Eisner for his Lunch Lady graphic novels, which are currently being adapted for a film starring Amy Poehler.  For additional art from Hey, Kiddo, see the Gallery below.
