The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and his Skybound imprint have inked a two-year deal with Amazon Studios, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Kirkman has moved his deal with longtime partner AMC to develop genre television projects for Amazon’s Prime Video platform. A first-look deal for Skybound is part of the partnership.
The reportedly sizable deal will see Kirkman and longtime collaborator Dave Alpert overseeing the Amazon slate with Skybound co-presidents of film and television Bryan and Sean Furst. It will also reunite Kirkman and Sharon Tal Yguado, who supervised the television rollouts of The Walking Dead and Outcast.
AMC’s loss (Kirkman had an overall deal with AMC previously) is likely Amazon’s gain if Kirkman and Skybound can replicate the success of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, which remain at AMC, for Amazon. The retail giant-turned-media-empire has made genre fare a top priority.
The deal with Amazon doesn’t affect Kirkman’s first-look film deal with Universal (see "Skybound Does Deal with Universal"), which includes an option on his long-running superhero comic Invincible (see “Robert Kirkman's 'Invincible' Optioned By Universal”).
