The price point for the Steamforged game based on Resident Evil 2 will be lower than the price for its Dark Souls game, with the goal being to sell the board game for less than a video game.
The Dark Souls Kickstarter by Steamforged is the #3 Kickstarter of all time for tabletop games, with over $5.4 million raised (see “Top 10 Tabletop Game Kickstarters-June 2017”).
As was the case with Dark Souls, Steamforged will use BackerKit to support a retailer level for the Kickstarter, with retailer backers shipped before the product goes into distribution. But the window between backer shipments and distribution will be relatively short, with a one to three month gap planned for Resident Evil, according to Agel.
Steamforged is generally considered to be among the more retailer-friendly of publishers using Kickstarter (see “Pro-Kickstarters Get Better and Worse for Retailers”).
The Steamforged license for Resident Evil is “very open,” according to Agel, so games featuring other parts of the property may follow.
