Dark Horse Comics will release the first collection of its comic book adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s award-winning fantasy novel American Gods on February 28.

American Gods Volume 1: Shadows collects the first nine issues of the comic book series, adapted by P. Craig Russell, with art by Russell, Scott Hampton, Walter Simonson, Colleen Doran, and Glenn Fabry.  The 208-page hardcover collection also features character designs, high res scans of original art, layouts, art process features and variant covers by Becky Cloonan, Skottie Young, Fabio Moon, and Dave McKean among others.  MSRP is $29.99.

Based on Gaiman’s Hugo, Bram Stoker, Locus, World Fantasy, and Nebula award-winning novel, American Gods follows Shadow Moon, who has just been freed from prison early to attend his wife’s funeral.  He meets Mr. Wednesday, who hires him as a bodyguard, plunging Shadow into a hidden world of gods incarnate. Shadow must learn to navigate this world quickly, since there’s a god war brewing.

The Starz network has also adapted American Gods into a TV series, which launched this spring (see "'American Gods' Trailer").  Dark Horse Deluxe is producing a line of products based on the TV show (see "Dark Horse Launches 'American Gods' Product Line").
